If you happen to live in Windsor or London, Ontario then crossing the border to fly out of Detroit International Airport (DTW) is often a great option: it is a major hub for Delta Airlines and Spirit Airlines but also offers many airlines and destinations. For some destinations, flying out of Detroit rather than Toronto Airport can win you many savings. If you’d like to spend a few days in New Orleans, flying Nonstop from Detroit can set you back around $130 with Spirit Airlines whereas flying from Toronto Airport with Air Canada will cost you more than $460. That’s quite a difference!

If you’re crossing the border, it would be useful to check wait times to ensure a smooth ride. Also, if you are a frequent traveler then a Nexus card will make your life easier. The three parking options at DTW are:

The On-Site Option: $70-$154 per week
The cheapest parking option at Detroit DTW Airport is the Green Lot (picture below taken from DTW website) with a free shuttle to both terminals. If you’d like to park closer to the terminal, the long-term parking daily flat rate can vary between $12 (North Terminal) and $22 (McNamara Terminal). Unfortunately, it does not seem like you can reserve your parking spot in advance, which may add unnecessary inconvenience to your trip.

The Sleep Option: $70-$280 total
If you have an early flight, you may consider spending the night at a hotel close to the airport so that you have a fresh start in the morning. Many  hotels around Detroit DTW airport allow you to leave your car for up to two weeks in their parking lot. A free shuttle is provided to take you to and from the terminal. However, depending on the season, you may not be able to book a comfortable night’s sleep for less than $100.

The Hotel Parking Option: $35 a week
The most affordable and convenient option is to book through a trusted engine that guarantees you a parking spot at a hotel of your choice near the airport, and a free 24hr shuttle service to and from the terminal.
OneStopParking provides the best rates in the market where from just $5 a day, you can reserve your parking spot, have a coffee at the lobby and then be transported by a shuttle to your terminal.
